Pearl Moon - Music for the Inner Spirit
Xavier Quijas Yxayotl
Format: Audio CD $17.99
Xavier Quijas Yxayotl’s project Peal Moon, contains Aztec and Mayan music includes drums, clay flutes, turtle shells played with deer antlers, gourd water drums, and other ancient instruments that once filled the pyramids and temples of Meso America. The indigenous name "Yxayotl" (meaning ‘tears’ in Nahuatl) was given to Xavier during a 1977 peyote ceremony by Huichol Shaman elder Don Jose Matsuwa. As a proud descendent of the Huicholes, Xavier followed his dreams to investigate and play pre-Columbian music. Xavier is also honored to have had 6 of his 7 CD releases nominated at the Native American Music Awards, two of them for Flutist of the Year.
The CD liner, written by Xavier himself explains: “The songs, the music and the rituals that were dedicated to the Goddess of the night (Meztli-Luna) shines inside of our hearts. Filled with love for sacred spirits, that’s why our ancestors dedicated everything to her, that she deserved”.
“Soothing yet vibrant, with a sound unlike any other the flutes and drums of
the Maya are dedicated to the Goddess of the Moon. This music transforms the
listener to a time when music was dedicated to the cycles of the universe and
to the cycles of life. The cover features Xavier's now famous 'fire flute'
which is very dramatic having 7 flute chambers-in-one with fire flaming off the
end of it. Music to heal the inner spirit.”
